SAN FRANCISCO

THIS IS SAN FRANCISCO
We never went anywhere for our honeymoon when we got married because we didn't have the money for it.  For our 5 year anniversary we finally had the time and money to spend 4 days in San Francisco and it was amazing.  You'll notice there are a million pictures to look at, I love pictures so this is why I put so many in.  Plus I always want to remember this vacation because it was the funnest I've been on.  Feel free to skip pictures if you want, I won't be offended.  Enjoy!!

1ST AIRPLANE RIDE
So, these 1st pictures are from the first airplanes we rode on.  Yes, sadly it was my very first time flying.  I was kind of nervous, I was really hoping I wouldn't throw up because sometimes I get motion sick.  We got the cheapest flights so me and Tyson didn't sit together on the first plane.  That made it worse, but I did sit by a flight attendant, so I figured if anything happened she could help me.  My favorite part was taking off.  It totally feels like a roller coaster.  I took these pictures from the plane.  It was really sunny the day we left and almost the whole way you could see to the ground.  It looked really cool from that far up.

ACADEMY OF SCIENCE MUSEUM
It was raining the day we got there and the day after.  Luckily we brought an umbrella, we still got soaked though.  Because of the rain we had to change some plans around and so we spent as much time indoors as we could.  My very smart husband found 7 day passes online before we left for $64 a person and they included:  Academy of Science Museum, SF Museum of Modern art, Exploritorium, the Aquarium, a cruise that went under the Golden Gate Bridge and then around Alcatraz Island,  it also included riding the trolley's, buses and metro trains.  Best $60 we have ever spent.  The 3x5 card pictures are from the Academy of Science Museum,  this part of the museum was about global warming and we laughed at alot of these so I thought I'd share them.  They also had a tropical rain forest bubble you could go in.  It had animals you find in the rain forest like snakes, spiders, frogs, lizards, and butterflies.

EXPLORITORIUM
The Exploritorium is like the Planitarium in SLC, but way bigger!  It was pretty cool but since it was raining, there were tons of people and they were all hogging the good stuff.  We went to the store they have in there because we decided we wanted to get something at each place we went.  They had umbrella's so we decided to get Tyson one.  It's kind of cool but creepy too.  It has eyes on it.  We also got a puzzle block, kind of like a rubix cube.

SAN FRANCISCO MUSEUM OF MODERN ART
This was one of our favorite places.  Sadly, two of the floors were closed, but we still got to see some amazing photographs, artwork, and they even had some furniture too.  My favorite was a model of a hotel.  It totally reminded me of Frank Gehry's architecture, some of his more famous work was the Disney Concert Hall and the Guggenheim in Bilbao Spain.  Both have shaped metal that no other architect does.  I was looking at the model of this hotel and I thought Frank Gehry because it also uses his famous shaped metal, and I was right!  The three pictures at the bottom are pictures of the museum.  We got some really cool shirts that say SFMOMA, and I also got a luggage name tag and decided it would be cool to make it a necklace because it had a really cool design.

GOLDENGATE BRIDGE
Sunday was our very favorite day.  We rented bikes to ride across the Golden Gate Bridge.  It was a long ride, but super fun!  Definately worth it, plus you get to exercise.  We stopped a lot because there were so many amazing views.  You can see the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, the ocean, and the city.  All the pictures are from the bike ride.  We decided we'd better get some pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge with us in them to prove we went there.

CRUISE
I think the cruise was our very favorite.  First it was fun to be on a ship, second we got so close to the Golden Gate Bridge,  third Tyson got some really good pictures of the city, we got really close to Alcatraz and got to see the side that no one else sees, plus we got to see the bay bridge.  That was cool too!

PIER 39/FISHERMANS WHARF
I didn't get any pictures of Fishermans Wharf, we went there to get on the ship for the cruise and the aquarium was there too.  The aquarium was pretty cool.  They had a tunnel and the fish were everywhere around you, and they had like a escalator thing you could stand on so you wouldn't have to walk and look up.  They had really big fish and some sharks,  it was super cool!

COIT TOWER
To get to Coit Tower we had to climb lots and lots of stairs to get to it.  It took us like 10-15 minutes to get to the top with all the stairs.  You can see the whole city and the Golden Gate and Bay bridges.  We wanted to climb to the top of the tower but, it was $10.  Instead we stayed at the bottom, looked at the amazing views, and took pictures.

CHINATOWN
On Saturday after the rain stopped, the city was having a parade for the Chinese New Year.  It was fun to watch, especially the dragons.  We tried to get some good pictures, but they aren't very good because it was starting to get dark.  Later we walked around Chinatown to find some exciting things to buy.  Tyson bought some nun chucks, he was very excited about them.

HOTEL ROOM
I told Tyson we had to get a picture of our hotel room.  We loved it!  It was really small, but when you're staying in a hotel why would you need a big room right?  We stayed at Hotel Union Square right downtown, and right across from DSW shoes.  (If you know me at all my favorite thing to shop for is shoes).  Tyson said if he would have known that we were right across from the shoes store he would have picked a different hotel, but he was kidding.  Anyway we really loved our hotel room, and loved the modern feel to it.  The light is from downstairs in the lobby and I love these lights because they look like water drops.

TROLLEY
We rode on a trolley several times, it was really fun especially since I've never ridden on one.  Ha ha, I have a funny story about one time when we rode one.  Okay, first you have to understand that the trolley stops at each intersection, in the middle of the intersection.  No sure why, I didn't ask, but they do.  They also have a guy that uses this big shifting things (before we got on, I noticed there were some handle things sticking above the seats, it seriously looked like a vacuum handle.  I wondered why they'd have a vacuum on there, and later I found out what it really was).  So, they use these big shifting things, that's what the vacuum looking handles were.  So, they'd have to shift to stop and go, and remember they stop at every intersection.  Well, this one time we were at the bottom of a huge hill.  The guy was trying to shift and we started to go really slow.  Then he got it to shift and we all were jerked back really hard.  The other guy picking up tickets was like, "Thats part of the ride".  Ha ha we were all laughing.  If you were there you'd be laughing.

GRACE CATHEDRAL
I was always kind of creeped out by cathedrals because the insides are so dark and kind of creepy.  Grace Cathedral is such an amazing building.  All the detailing on the building was amazing.  We went inside to look around but you couldn't tour it unless you paid $10.  Instead we just stood in the foyer and looked around.  Since it is a big open room you can see a lot just from the foyer.  The stained glass windows look so awesome with the sun coming through.  An interesting thing we noticed with all the nice looking buildings is that they all have netting or needle looking things on the ledges.  This is so birds, there are sooo many birds, don't land on the ledges of the buildings and poop everywhere.
TRANSAMERICA BUILDING
I loved this building out of all the buildings in the city.  Not only can you see it from almost anywhere in the city, but this building is like no other building in the city.  I mean come on, a triangle = awesome!  I don't really have a lot to say, other then I really wanted to see it and the day we were planning on seeing it we were really tired because we'd already ridden across the bridge and done a bunch of other stuff.  Tyson said we should still go see it, and I was like, "Fine".  We did and I was so glad that we did go see it.  I love the pictures looking up at it from the ground.  Oh, ya and outside the building they had these trees that they'd shaped like the building.  I thought that was pretty cool.

JAPANTOWN
We went to Japantown on Monday before we left.  We were sad it wasn't quite like Chinatown.  They have a mall, but the stores are more for people that live there and not for tourists.  So, it wasn't as exciting as we had hoped, but we were still glad we went.

FERRY BUIDING
We didn't have a lot of time the last day we were in San Francisco.  One of the places we wanted to see was the Ferry Building.  It was a very cool building and we found some very cool art.  We went in and looked around hoping for some shops, but at the Ferry Building they only have restaurants, so it was a little disappointing.

NEIGHBORHOOD HOUSES
Other than shoes, architecture comes close to another thing I love.  It's probably because Steve, my professor from College is an architect and he taught us to really love architecture and the details.  I love really love Victorian architecture, and they have it everywhere in San Francisco!  I love all the colors and all the details.  Some of these pictures we took while riding the bus or trolley and some were taken while walking around exploring the city.   Everything was on a hill, you'll notice almost every house is on a hill.  They say San Francisco has a lot of hills, but I didn't realize that almost everything is on a hill, it's crazy how many hills they have.

AIRPLANE RIDE HOME
This is us at the airport, we were really sad to leave San Francisco.  We loved everything about the city, and didn't want to leave.
OTHER RANDOM PICTURES
This is a fountain that is right across the street from the Academy of Science Museum.
This building we found out is a museum, but not sure what one it is.  We thought it was cool.
This is the same fountain, just on the other side.
